Blog #3 - Comparing media
The main news national news story that seems to be blowing up the most most noticable is the shooting of Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Various forms of media offered coverage of the shooting, victims, and raising strong feedback on gun laws.
All days as of now of February 23rd since the day of the shooting have been updating further details and had many guest speakers speak on te issue.
The first story I came across was on a live broadcast talking about gun laws from NPR.
This segment was around 15 minutes long and had the guest speaker Jeff Swanson, an American medical sociologist and professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences of Duke University.
I was stating that stongerbackround checks would not necessarily help so much as a solution to shootings.
Now looking more into same-day coverage under online news, the New York post was the most recent online news source last updated that I came across.
This print news coverage covered on how four sheriff's deputeeshid diring the shooting.
The article sourced that Coral Springs Police Department told "when officers arrived on the scene, they were shocked to find three Broward County Sheriff’s deputies behind their cars with their weapons drawn."
For the television coverage, I came across CNN's most recent news on one of the officers who waited outside of the school during the shooting.
The TV coverage on the matter was around 10 minutes with Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel speaking on the matter.
Sheriff Israel stated that officer Scot Peterson "never went in" although he was positioned on the west side of the building where the shooting was taking place.
Compared to the newspaper coverage, you could actually see the emotion and disappointment on Sherrif Israel's face on Peterson's action and failing to retaliate accordingly to the shooting.
